Position SummaryJoin an elite group of law professionals that provides a full range of legal services to the U.S. Air Force and its people. As a JAG in the Air Force, you will receive specialized training and immediately engage in an exciting, diversified practice of law where you will be able to focus on your clients and professional development without the distraction of billable hours.
ResponsibilityThe experience of practicing law in a military environment is markedly different than in the private sector. An Air Force JAG handles a wide variety of legal issues, including criminal, international, operational, environmental, medical, labor, space and civil law. Initially litigating courts-martial as a prosecutor, you have the potential to become defense counsel, offer counsel on multimillion-dollar contracts, assist deploying Airmen with legal issues and provide critical counsel to Air Force commanders around the world.

Continued EducationSpecialized training courses and continuing legal educational opportunities are abundant and provided at government expense. There are short courses for prosecutors, defense counsel and military judges. Also, specialty courses are provided in such areas as medical law, labor law, environmental law, information and operational law, utility contract negotiation and government contracts.
In addition, JAGs are competitively selected every year to return to law school for LL.M.s in specialties like government contracts (procurement), labor law, air and space law, international law and environmental law. Upon completion of the program, Judge Advocates can expect an assignments to positions within their areas of expertise.As a member of this elite group of law professionals, you'll be part of the team that provides a full range of legal services to the U.S. Air Force and its people. You'll also enter a world of opportunity - one where you can take on immediate responsibility, continue your education and gain experience working around the globe in any number of law fields. Requirements - You must be a U.S. citizen.
- You must be less than 35 years of age.
- You must be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school and be admitted to the highest court of any state.
- You must be willing to travel and relocate.
- You must complete an Air Force medical examination and be medically qualified by the Air Force Surgeon General prior to commissioning.
