JOB SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, assists in preparing and dispensing medications, patient education material and other pharmaceutical supplies, including but not limited to: setting up, packaging, labeling and charging for medication doses; filling routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas; and assisting in the preparation of IV additives. The Pharmacy Technician must function in strict accordance with standard written procedures and guidelines, any deviation from which must be approved by the supervising Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician must be willing to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences for patients, and must possess an adequate command of the English language to fulfill the requirements of the position. The Pharmacy Technician must show the ability to acquire skills in the use of pharmaceutical apparatus, instruments and equipment; work with sustained focus and attention to detail and employ care in performing routine repetitive tasks; be able to properly follow verbal and written instructions with reliable accuracy, precision and confidence; and demonstrate sufficient maturity in independent decision making as to distinguish routine functions from those that require the judgment of a Registered Pharmacist or Licensed Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician is expected to keep alert for errors and inform the supervising Pharmacist of any problems requiring attention. He/She participates in Performance Improvement as needed, including cooperating in the annual assessment process. He/She abides by federal and state Pharmacy rules and regulations. This individual must be forthcoming, honest and cooperative in departmental matters involving self or others, and must promote the SRHS mission of world class healthcare and wellness and understands that the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program places the burden of proof on the provider to show that there was no intent to commit fraud.
REQUIREMENTS: l High school graduate with basic background in chemistry, science and arithmetic. Must have typing ability; computer skills preferred. l Must possess a valid Pharmacy Technician Registration from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy within one year of employment. Certification by the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board preferred. l On the job training in a retail or hospital pharmacy or equivalent. l Stands, bends, turns, stoops, lifts, climbs and uses many physical motions in performing day to day activities; finger dexterity, eye hand coordination, visual acuity and color discrimination required.
