Job Description
Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) is seeking a CHIEF OF STAFF with proven leadership skills and a record of academic achievement who will oversee the continued rebuilding and recovery of VA services throughout the region. The CHIEF OF STAFF will lead the exciting and challenging task of activating a new world class medical center that will include significant staff expansion. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with strong operational skills and business acumen. The New Orleans replacement Medical Center will be a 1.6 million square feet, 200 bed facility located on a 30-acre site in New Orleans. Construction will be completed in late 2014 with full activation in 2015. The new Medical Center will serve over 70,000 enrolled Veterans. The facility has been designed to meet the full array of VA missions: Health Care to Americas Heroes, Education, Research, and National Preparedness. More information and renderings of the new medical center can be found at: http:www.neworleans.va.govProject_Legacy.asp The Chief of Staff will be responsible for overseeing the clinical, academic and research missions of the organization. The facility has a strong teaching mission and is affiliated with both the Tulane University Medical Center and the LSU Health Sciences Center. SLVHCS currently provides educational opportunities to over 500 medical students, residents, and fellows, and the number of trainees will increase to 1000 when the hospital opens. The facility also has a strong research tradition that had supported a Nobel Prize recipient as one of its investigators. The new facility will include a designated Research building and the Chief of Staff will be responsible for overseeing the facilitys biomedical, clinical, and health service research programs. -The candidate must have an extensive record of leadership as a clinician and administrator. -Exceptional operational and financial management skills are essential. -The successful candidate must have the ability to meet performance measure goals and have a thorough knowledge of the standards held by the Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies. -As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CHIEF OF STAFF must be a skilled interpersonal communicator, possess the ability to promote innovation, and inspire organizational excellence.
