Job Description

The Senior Rehabilitation Counselor for The Lineage Project (Tides Center) provides counseling and related services for youth incarcerated or held in youth detention facilities as well as at-risk youth served by community-based programs in New York City. Duties include: Assess and document individual needs of youth participants ages 10 to 24. Develop rehabilitation-focused curriculum, including practice of mindfulness techniques, based on the needs and abilities of the youth participants. Include program components to address personal, social and educational/vocational effects of incarceration and to increase capacity for independent living. Serve as community liaison to educational settings, social service agencies and other settings to ensure successful re-integration of youth. Administer surveys to measure the impact of program components on the health and well-being of youth participants. Assure compliance with law, policies and procedures of the Lineage Project and the detention centers where on-site activities are held. Develop volunteer training program, train and supervise volunteer staff at the Lineage Project, run support group for volunteers. Travel throughout New York City.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Psychology, Counseling or a closely related field. 5 years of post-baccalaureate, progressive related experience as counselor, youth worker or related occupation. Experience must include at least 5 years experience working with youth in the criminal justice system; at least 5 years experience working with youth in a mental health/counseling environment; experience teaching stress and anger management techniques to youth; experience working with multi-cultural populations. Requires knowledge of child development and developmental psychology. Requires travel throughout NYC.
