Issue #23 : November 2013
The past few months have been a real busy time for all of us here at America's Job Exchange and I wanted to update you on some of the highlights in this 'new and improved' issue of our newsletter.
As you might know, after a long, two-year deliberation period, the OFCCP has finally announced the revisions governing the hiring of protected veterans (VEVRAA), and individuals with disabilities (Section 503 of The Rehabilitation Act). These rules are game changers and while they are encouraging for applicants whose rights they protect, they are definitely burdensome for most employers from the standpoint of compliance. Employers need to prepare quickly before the laws go into effect March 24, 2014.
AJE is at the leading edge of these changes, and hosted a compliance conference to address these issues in early September, ahead of all competitors, assembling together a broad range of industry experts. Featured speakers included Mandi Costa, Assistant Director of the Boston OFCCP office, who spoke on the new expectations of the compliance officers. Matthew J. Camardella, Esq., of Jackson-Lewis, elaborated on the new rules and their ramifications on employers and provided valuable insights and tactics to navigate through the ambiguities of the regulations. Misty Glorioso, a consultant with Berkshire Associates, presented the details of the applicant management process and tools that can assist employers with the increased data collection and data analysis needs of the OFCCP. On behalf of our team at AJE, I outlined our approach to compliance related outreach and reporting at our September compliance conference. At AJE, we believe that we are revolutionizing compliance outreach and data analysis with a broader and deeper approach. All in all, the conference was a huge success. As you know, everyone wants to be prepared, and the AJE compliance conference was a great way to get started.
A major element of the new revisions is the emphasis on hiring veterans. November is National Veterans' Month. It is also the time that we commend our heroes for their commitment and dedication to our country, while making good on our duty to help them assimilate back into the economy. AJE has been helping organizations, large and small, to reach and recruit veterans. This is important not only for EEO or compliance purposes, but also for the fact that veterans make great employees. We believe that hiring veterans is a smart business decision. I hope you will check out this great article that tells you why we think so.
We have also been busy being on the road and showcasing our solution. After a productive National ILG conference in Indianapolis, we were at the SHRM Diversity and Inclusion conference in San Francisco last month. Diversity hiring and OFCCP compliance are connected and as a leader in recruitment compliance, AJE is also a top destination for companies who want to identify, reach and recruit talented candidates for a diversity rich workforce. On behalf of AJE, I also had the privilege of speaking at the 16th Annual AZilg Compliance Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. This was the third straight year I had the opportunity to present our solution before a very knowledgeable and active group of practitioners. I encourage you to check out our article that covers how AJE is enhancing its solution to meet the challenges of the new regulations.
Finally, I want to mention that while we are a business, we also are involved in our communities. We take turns to volunteer in causes that we believe in. Our own Kyle Brown often dedicates his time to The Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest hunger relief organization in New England. To see what Kyle has been up to click here.
As the holidays approach, and the frantic deadlines come upon us for completion, we want you to know that AJE is here for you. In anticipation of the new regulations, we have made significant enhancements to our product and solution strategies, and we will continue to invest next year. So, you are in good hands!
On behalf of everyone at AJE, I wish you and yours the best for this holiday season.View Newsletter »
