With the holidays around the corner, this is a time to thank employees for their contributions. And with the New Year fast approaching, it’s also a good time to assess critical staffing needs for the coming year. This month we focus on both.

We start off this month’s employer articles with Valuing Employees, Why It Is a Key to Retention. In this article we discuss many pathways employers can take to increase retention and decrease turnover; simple strategies, most of which can be deployed without huge costs – and with vast rewards. Our suggested approaches include tactics such as treating employees like stakeholders; making them more vested in the company and its success which will translate to improved productivity. Another approach includes team building, such as instituting mentoring amongst peers. These and other motivational initiatives, such as training, are all ways to boost morale and increase retention.

Another approach to increase the morale of an organization, one we are closely committed to at America’s Job Exchange, and discuss this month, is investing in its diversity by hiring veterans. If you are looking to embrace this sector of the workforce, our article The Essentials When Hiring Veterans is a must read. There are multiple reasons why hiring veterans is good for business. Read this article to learn more.

Speaking of hiring, if you haven’t done so already for your holiday needs, Hiring Retail Workers Quickly for the Holidays will help prep you and also provide some essential tips to staffing up quickly for peak selling periods. And like with most of what we suggest, when it comes to recruiting, the first step is to plan; assess staffing needs as far in advance as possible and have a turn–key recruiting mechanism in place, such as online job ads and social media outreach. Be ready, always.

Lastly, if your recruiting needs are vast and fluctuate often, you may be looking to invest in an Applicant Tracking System, or ATS. Our article Choosing the Right Applicant Tracking System outlines the areas you should consider when vetting potential vendors, from ease of implementation into your current recruiting platforms to will an ATS improve efficiency and cost of scale. Learn more.

Best of luck as you wrap up the year. From our family to yours, Happy Holidays.
