Whether you are actively hiring, putting together a recruitment sourcing strategy, or grappling with the decision to slow–down or stop, altogether, hiring in the near–term and based on some continued uncertainty in the capital markets, this month’s issue should prove to be an interesting read.
As we outlined in our January Jobs Report blog, the unemployment outlook continues to improve. With a current unemployment rate at 7.9 percent and better than expected jobs growth (+157,000) in January, job seekers are certainly looking to capitalize on the improved jobs outlook. And we’re seeing this enthusiasm in the increased traffic to our job boards, as well as resume submissions and more.
Unfortunately, as many of you know, the picture is not as good for all Americans. This month we started an important blog series taking a closer look at specific sectors of the labor market, such as Veterans and disabled Americans, minorities and women, and more. In Veterans among Several Work Groups Facing Unique Challenges, we look at transitioning military personnel and the obstacles – and opportunities they face. Perhaps the opportunity lies with you?
Like many of you, mobile applications are becoming part of promoting products and services. It appears the Labor Department is following suite. Read Mobile Apps to Make the Job Search Easier to review the five new mobile apps the Bureau of Labor just released; some of these may give ideas to promote your own company and job openings. Also, be sure to get familiar with AJE’s mobile App for iPhone – we continue to see growth in the number of downloads each month.
Personally, I love AJE and our unique story in the evolution of online job boards. Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mark Lesiw, Vice President of Business Development at Careerleaf, an online job board community connecting job seekers with niche job boards like ours, for his series, Job Boards to Love. Our discussion began with the many benefits of AJE – such as connecting employers with diverse candidates and our OFCCP compliance solutions, to our expansive history dating back almost twenty–years as we helped spawn the adoption and popularity of Internet–based job boards. Read and listen to our Jobs Boards to Love Podcast feature for a great look at our history – and services.
