Job Description
Our client, located in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Junior Windows Engineer for an immediate Contract to Perm position.
Details include:
**3rd Shift - shifts will be 3:30 P.M. - 11:30 P.M. EST, Monday - Friday**
OBJECTIVE
:
This position serves as a technical resource to support the organization as directed. This position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
.
Assist in the physical planning, scheduling and installation of new computer hardware & software.
.
Follow standard procedures and configuration management policies to get servers installed and connected to the network
.
Communicate with vendors and other groups to determine needs
.
Interface with Data Center Operations to ensure server is installed in a timely manner
.
Aid in the research, development and deployment of new technologies and methods, process automation and multi-vendor integration
.
Under the direction of Windows Server team leaders, coordinate the patch management of all servers.
Work with Information Security to address vulnerabilities and find the appropriate fixes
.
Manage the ongoing patch management schedule inclusive of coordination with application development and quality assurance teams
.
Communicate and schedule patch management events
.
Under the direction of problem and/or change management, coordinate changes to production Windows servers.
.
Document and get all work approved via Remedy
.
Ensure requirements are met before implementing the system changes
.
Coordinate with external and internal teams affected by system change
.
Update and maintain system documentation and local procedures.
Ensure that any previous documentation is updated with new changes
.
Provide documentation for all new processes and procedures that can assist other team members in maintaining servers
.
Maintain technical proficiency in all phases of computer operations, data communications, operating systems and applications.
.
Attend training classes when needed or assigned
.
Identify weak areas in which training is needed
.
Coach and share knowledge with peers and counter parts
.
Accept OJT (on the job training) as an adequate means of training
Keep problem solving skills current
.
Troubleshoot and repair Windows systems
.
Provide engineering, daily support and implementation services for Intel/Windows production systems.
Troubleshooting includes, but is not limited to; isolating problems, recommending proper solutions and implementing solutions
.
Work closely with other technical groups located locally and remotely
.
Update problem tickets in a timely manner (creating, researching, referring, closing)
.
Take necessary action to fix problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
.
Should have knowledge and experience with Windows operating systems and Intel hardware platforms and the functions they perform.
.
Experience with any or all of the following is preferred: Exchange 2000 Server, Windows 2000/ 2003 Server, and Active Directory.
.
Knowledge of server hardware configuration and troubleshooting.
.
A good understanding of networking concepts and technologies including: TCP/IP, DNS, and WINS.
.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
*Ability to work on a team as well as independently
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
.
Must be willing to work in an environment where some lifting of equipment is needed.
.
Lifting up to 50 lbs.
SPECIFICS OF THE JOB
.
Required to carry a cell phone and provide rotational 24x7 on-call for systems support
.
May be required to travel for varying lengths of time
.
Will be required to attend technical training classes.
