Job Description

From research through development to production, our scientific expertise and innovative solutions help customers tackle their most complex problems and achieve their goals. We are currently seeking an R&D Development Engineer for the Membrane Product Development Group within EMD Millipore's Process Solutions business unit. As part of the Research and Development organization, the successful candidate will develop novel products used in the processing and purification of pharmaceutical and biotech product streams. The position requires a self directed and independent engineer who will work closely with various groups within EMD Millipore, such as marketing, quality, manufacturing, and device product development to successfully develop and validate new membranes and membrane processes. Work will include designing, planning, and executing experiments in the laboratory and on manufacturing machinery in such a way that the results are meaningful and of high quality. Work will also include independently addressing and solving technical problems. Statistical methods will be used to evaluate the reliability of experimental results and to draw meaningful conclusions. This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.

A B.S. in engineering or chemistry or equivalent plus 5-8 years experience in a related technical area or MS plus 3-5 years or PhD plus 0-3 years. The successful candidate must be competent in engineering methods with the proven ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data, formulate conclusions, and communicate findings in both an oral and written format. Effective planning and organizational skills are required. Knowledge of laboratory and manufacturing safety practices are needed. Knowledge and experience of manufacturing process for Ultra filtration Membranes very desirable. Knowledge and experience in process validation, web handling, coating, and/or polymer science very helpful.
