We are currently accepting applications for fellowship positions in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, for the academic year 2018-2019. The Department offers fellowships in seven different subspecialty areas, for advanced clinical training.
Fellowships are at the Health Sciences Clinical Instructor level, based at UC Irvine Medical Center, and will have the benefits and privileges of this position through the University of California, Irvine.
Our mission, within the Department, and in a broader context as a University of California School of Medicine campus, is to provide an excellent educational experience so as to produce highly trained fellows who will go on to become leaders in their subfields. We believe that we provide an optimal combination of study volume, procedure volume, experience with sequencing/protocoling, academic time, and optional research time, to produce very knowledgeable, well rounded abdominal imagers with cutting edge knowledge of their subspecialties.
A one-year, cross-sectional, Abdominal Imaging fellowship is offered in the Department of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine, providing an emphasis on cross-sectional abdominal imaging with coordinated experience in CT, Ultrasound, MRI and image guided procedures (two positions).
We are the only Level one trauma center in Orange County (with a population of over 3 million) and provide imaging services for the National Cancer Institute sponsored Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center on the Medical Center campus.
Considerable expansion of the radiology department facilities, both in terms of floor space with upgraded PACS, ergonomic reading rooms, new patient areas and new equipment has recently been done with the opening of the new radiology wing in the state of the art UCI Douglas University Hospital. This includes cutting edge equipment including, several 3 Philips 256 channel CT scanners, 3T Philips Ingenia MRI platform, 3T Seimens Trio MRI, 1.5-Tesla Siemens Avanto MRI, 16 channel SPECT/CT scanner and numerous IU-22 Philips ultrasound units. Higher field strength magnets are available in our research division on campus.
The fellow will participate in CT and Ultrasound guided procedures. The fellowship will also provide a vast experience in Doppler vascular ultrasound.
Participation in the department's on-going research projects and publication is encouraged and expected.
Fellows are expected to submit at least one presentation in the RSNA, SAR and ARRS meetings. Successful applicants will be Health Sciences Clinical Instructors in the School of Medicine, and will actively participate in the teaching of UC Irvine residents and medical students, as well as participate in several interdisciplinary conferences.
There will be seven faculty members supervising the fellowship.
