Job Description
Will Statement Will: Be a Student Intern in the JPL Summer Program working full time in a specified Research Specialty group. Will be provided with hands-on work experience in the application of conceptual and theoretic curriculum within Science and Research. Will be responsible for performing routine job functions and activities within an assigned Science group and may work inone or more of the following areas: Support professional staff responsible for identifying scientific questions and issues, and applying theoretical principles and developing creative/analytical techniques and scientific methods to find solutions. Interface with scientists, projects and programs to understand and meet their technology needs. Infuse new capabilities into JPL’s projects and systems.•Assist with data analysis, technical analysis and/or fundamental research.•Receive guidance from advisor to modify scientific or technology development and test techniques, processes, and procedures.•Conduct scientific analysis of experimental results.•Perform scientific tasks in support of projects and/or programs.•May assist researchers in the development of proposals for the Principal Investigator (“PI”).•May participate in project or program presentations.•Participate in the design and/or construction of research devices, techniques, and/or systems with guidance.•Perform instrument testing tasks in support of projects and/or programs.•Fabricate and test component technology.•Work on day-to-day assignments under direct supervision; receives detailed instructions on new assignments.•Use applicable policies, procedures and practices as guides to determine work methods and deliver results.•Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy.•Interact primarily with immediate supervisor and team members within own organization.This is a temporary non-benefit based summer position. Final career level placement is based on your current level at school. Skills Required Skills:•Must be currently enrolled at least half-time at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelors degree or Graduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Mathematics or other related science discipline.•Minimum GPA 3.0.•Must be available to work full time during the summer for 8-12 week assignment.•Has some familiarity in one or more of the following areas: Scientific or Technological Research, Proposals, instrument development, Algorithms.•Completed coursework with exposure to standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Scientific Research.•Knowledge and experience with MS Office.•Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.•US Citizen or Legal Permanent ResidentDesired Skills:•Prior internship experience in related scientific disciplines.•Participation in student organizations.•Completion of at least one year of college.
