Job Summary:The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing accounting, technical and clerical support to Client Reporting personnel. The position works closely with the Accounting Technicians, Accountants, and Accounting Management Team, and may take direction from the Controller, or Vice President of Client Reporting. The position is responsible for direct oversight of a specific accounting program or system and fulfills support functions which may include, but are not limited to, accounting, treasury services, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and auditing. A successful Accounting Specialist ensures timeliness and accuracy when completing all assigned team functions.An Accounting Specialist may be designated according to the type of function performed, such as Accounts Payable Specialist. Each Accounting Specialist is responsible for the same job functions outlined below.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Accounting Specialist will use due diligence and make best efforts in executing the following responsibilities:RelationshipsProvides support to Accountants and Accounting Managers as needed. Provides support to Regional Property Managers and clients as needed.Acts as a liaison with other departments, organizations, and agencies as needed.Collaborates with the Accounting Management Team in the development and implementation of office policies and accounting procedures, as needed.Recognizes and rewards right behavior in others and addresses inappropriate behavior or ethical breaches. Performs the duties of other Accounting Specialists or Accounting Technicians as required (in their absence). Exercises professionalism and uses caution/discretion when engaging team members or other business associates during business hours, company-sponsored events, and personal time.ReportingSupports and enforces company and accounting policies as well as all applicable federal, state and local statutes and regulations.Completes team functions as defined by the Team Manager including, but not limited to, processing banking requests, processing accounts payable, reconciling bank accounts, performing basic audit work, recording general ledger activity, or performing other accounting related functions.Maintains fiscal records by reviewing requisitions, vouchers, and other documents to ensure accuracy and timeliness.Researches, tracks, and resolves (or properly refers) problems or discrepancies relating to team functions or documentation.Compiles and sorts documents such as forms, invoices, checks, and bank statements.Performs any combination of calculating, posting, or verifying duties to confirm the details of business transactions.Compares data contained in a variety of financial records in order to detect trends, errors, or anomalies.Maintains files and support documentation required to authenticate business transactions.Performs special projects and research as assigned.ProfitabilitySupports and enforces internal controls established by the department and company, and discloses any weaknesses relating to such controls or the lack thereof.Applies quality measures and standards within all areas of responsibility to support the company's mission, vision, and core values.Monitors business transactions related to Pinnacle for irregularities and reports finding as necessary. Continually seeks to identify innovative strategies for increasing department efficiencies and reducing expenses.SKILLS AND ABILITY: TechnicalAn analytical background with a thorough knowledge of position-specific accounting functions.A detail-oriented work ethic.A functional understanding of current accounting software and Microsoft Office products.
