The Department of Pediatrics is currently seeking an experienced, bilingual (English/Spanish) Administrative Assistant to join our operations. Under the general supervision of the Manager, perform the function of authorization coordinator, verify insurance in advance, request authorizations for primary care, specialist, and ancillary department. Provide prompt and courteous telephone communications. Candidate must be energetic, positive, a team player, and be willing to embrace tasks as assigned.


To be considered for this position, you must have working knowledge of Medi-cal, CCS, HMO's, PPO's, authorization eligibility requirement and regulations. Ability to perform the functions of patient appointment scheduling using a computerized system. Ability to enter the correct insurance information into the Care Connect (EHR) system. Strong communication skills to interact diplomatically with persons of various social cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to obtain information and explain the University policies as they relate to appointment, scheduling, registration, billing and collections. Typing skill sufficient to input accurate data in the Cair Connect (EHR). Skill in computing ratios, rates and percentages to assign appropriate change to patients and provide correct change for cash payments. General knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding. Reading skills sufficient to understand documents such as training guides and department polities. Experience in working as part of a team, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all staff members, management and the public. Skill in organizing and prioritizing assignments and minimizing duplication of effort. Ability to work effectively under a rotating work assignment system. Skill in working independently and completing assignments with minimal supervision. English/Spanish bilingual oral communication skills to communicate with our Spanish speaking population. Skill in performing responsibilities with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
