This position is an exciting opportunity to gain an understanding of the nature and complexities of management and leadership in a healthcare setting. This experience has been intentionally designed to provide a broad continuum of experiences for those with the potential for executive leadership in healthcare.

During the one year fellowship program, the fellow will spend time learning the core components of the healthcare system through attendance of various meetings, to include quality, compliance and risk, human resources and organizational development, finance/revenue cycle management, community engagement, clinical operations, long term care environment, medical practices, strategic planning, process improvement, and physician partnership/medical affairs. The fellow will work on projects that support the strategic plan, under the guidance of the senior management team.


Duty 1: Exhibit behaviors consistent with the Blanchard Valley Health System's Mission, Vision, and Values, Core Competencies and Performance Appraisal Dimension Descriptions.

Duty 2: Spend time with senior leadership, department directors and managers in order to understand their business environment and existing critical issues.

Duty 3: Assist leadership with projects and general administrative duties as needed, and embrace opportunities to make presentations, use analytical and critical thinking skills, and collaborate with associates from all areas of the health system.

Duty 4: Participate in leadership shadowing across the health system.

Duty 5: Regularly attend Managerial Forum meetings, Executive Steering Committee meetings, Medical Staff Executive meetings, Board meetings and sub-committee meetings, and other meetings deemed as appropriate.

Duty 6: Participate actively in the budget process, strategic planning, process improvement initiatives, and electronic health record implementation.

Duty 7: Provide Medicaid and public health exchange enrollment assistance to uninsured patients looking for coverage.

Duty 8: Assist BVHS with its Baldrige journey to performance excellence, which may include serving as a Baldrige examiner for The Partnership for Excellence (TPE), writing or gathering information to update and improve BVHS' application, and/or collaborating with the leadership team to address opportunities for improvement identified in the Baldrige feedback report.

Duty 9: With the guidance and approval of the executive team preceptors, develop and complete a culminating project.


* Completion of a CAHME and/or AUPHA accredited MHA, MHSA, MPH, or MBA program prior to the start of the fellowship

* Demonstrate leadership ability and skills in critical thinking, strategic planning, process improvement, analysis and systems thinking

* Proficient with business computer applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within one year of your residency in the state) and you must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy requirements


* Previous healthcare experience


This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.

Administrative Fellowship Timeline
