Our nearly 90,000 employees partner with customers in virtually every industry-from consumer electronics, energy and healthcare, to automotive, aerospace and communication networks-enabling smarter, faster, better technologies to connect products to possibilities.Responsibilities:The Advanced Development Group in the Aerospace, Defense and Marine (AD&M) business unit of TE Connectivity is seeking a program managers / principal engineer with experience and training in electrical engineering. The lifeblood of our business - and one of our Company's core values - is Innovation. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to drive new technology and innovation to position the business unit for future success in the long-cycle businesses of our market segments including commercial aerospace, defense-related industries and marine industry (including off-shore). The Advanced Development Group works on new product concepts by seeking to incorporate the very latest advances in materials and processes with a goal of developing products for sale in the 3 to 7 year time horizon. The industries we serve are driven by the need to reduce weight, to handle increased power and higher bandwidths, and to increase reliability. Therefore, the main responsibility of the program manager is to understand fully our customers' future needs and to direct internal and external materials and concept development to meet those needs. The program manager will lead and manage a small team of scientists and development engineers. To accomplish their work the team will interact with Corporate Research & Development, outside suppliers - especially start-ups - and with universities and other research institutes. They will also work closely with our customers' R&D organizations. They will perform the initial development work to validate their product concepts. As product concepts progress beyond prototypes, the Advanced Development group works with the other AD&M development teams to facilitate the rapid development of qualified products.Requirement:Key Responsibilities
- Direct research in new, critical technology areas that offer the promise of increased reliability reduced weight and increased power. The identified area of specialty for this position is power and signal transmission components for use in harsh environments using new and non-conventional materials.
- Engage with our customers' Research & Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Procurement organizations to understand future customer requirements for new technology and applications.
- Work with the Divisions Business development and sales and marketing personnel to understand the market directions and specific customer needs.
- Identify and collaborate with key universities, research institutes, and start-up operations specializing in the specific technology field. (The personnel within the Advanced Development Group are expected to guide senior management in the investment of research dollars within their field of specialty.)
- Scan the technological, industry, and competitive horizons for both threats and opportunities related to innovation areas.
- Familiarize oneself with literature research in field and with the appropriate class of materials.
- Work with internal development engineers and our manufacturing organization to transition successful technology to large-scale manufacturing and the end-user market.
- Provide updates to senior management on the progress of the advanced research and other possible uses for the new technology in Aerospace and Defense and other markets.
- Manage, with the scientists and engineers, the R&D budget for the specific technology area of responsibility. Skills and Qualifications
- Our existing products in the Aerospace, Defense and Marine Business Unit are a wide range interconnection components and systems: e.g. wire and cable, connectors, relays, antennas, sensors, overvoltage and overcurrent protective components. Experience in designing, evaluating, or promoting these or similar products for use in harsh environments would be very valuable.
- We are looking for candidates who are keenly interested in investigating with our customers real-world problems that will become more acute over the next 5 to 10 years and in conceiving products that provide solutions for those problems.
- We anticipate that successful candidates would have an advanced degree demonstrating excellence in the field of electrical sciences. Masters or PhD is highly preferred.
- We expect that successful candidate would have experience in concept development - in developing new technology solutions to meet anticipated customer needs.
- Prior experience working in a program / project manager role is preferred and familiarity with project management planning and reporting tools is required
