Advanced Manufacturing Development Engineer
The Advanced Manufacturing Development Engineer role at Milwaukee Tool is critical within the New Product Development organization. Identifying, designing, and developing capable manufacturing processes for new products and providing input to the design process regarding manufacturability in the early phases of a project is critical to success.
The following are detailed performance goals for the Advanced Manufacturing Development Engineer opportunity. When measuring overall technical skills, cultural fit and aptitude, all candidates will be benchmarked using these standards.
One of the most important objectives for the Advanced Manufacturing Development Engineer will be the recommendation and implementation of manufacturing processes for New Product Development projects.
? Within the initial 30-90 days of a New Product Development project, analyze critical product features as the design evolves. This will serve as a basis for eventually recommending, specifying, and developing robust and capable manufacturing processes.
? Relying on an engineering or technology degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in metals, machining practices, and heat treatment, you will creatively leverage existing technologies to optimize new product manufacturing processes for balance of quality, cost, and capability.
? Where technologies do not presently exist, collaborate with vendors to design customized manufacturing equipment and processes.
Equally important will be participation in cross-functional NPD teams.
? Active participation in the team(s) will include providing candid input regarding product design as it relates to manufacturability.
? Will provide any required documentation regarding manufacturing/operations for each of the phase gates within the formal New Product Development framework (VPIN/VIGOR).
? Work closely with the manufacturing facility targeted for project implementation at all levels to cultivate feedback and input regarding the recommended manufacturing processes.
Effective project management and implementation will rely on persistence and an ability to communicate.
? Projects are likely to involve one or more outside vendors, manufacturing facilities outside of Brookfield, and all levels of internal staff. Ability to cultivate dialogue with the affected facilities and individuals about proposed solutions is critical.
? Project duration is typically 3 to 18 months and will require a sustained drive through implementation and release to production.
? Likely workload will be 2-6 active projects. Ability to organize and manage this workload while achieving forward progress is required.
? A sense of urgency and respect for speed-to-market is needed, and a healthy impatience with the status quo is a required characteristic of a successful candidate.
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or Automation technical areas.
5+ years Manufacturing and/or Industrial Engineering manufacturing experience.
5+ years Project Manager experience in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred enhanced specialty skills in new process development and implementing. Advanced computer knowledge and skills in MS Office and Solidworks/AutoCAD.
