* POSITION SUBTITLE: Advanced Practice Nurse, Critical Care

In a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, contributes professional and clinical nursing expertise to assigned unit(s) and/or patient populations to ensure the delivery of high quality nursing care

* POSITION SUMMARY:

* The Critical Care Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) diagnoses medical conditions, plans and implements interventions, and evaluates critically ill patients in collaboration with intensive care physicians. He/she may perform invasive therapeutic procedures (namely central venous lines, arterial lines, thoracotomy tubes, intubation) based on the needs of the specific patient population as determined collaboratively with the intensivist and as approved the board of trustees. He/she will also lead codes and manage arrhythmias per ACLS guidelines. He/she will perform ventilator management, invasive line removal, medication de-escalation, and facilitate transfer of patients into and out of the critical care units in collaboration with intensivists. The critical care advanced practice registered nurse will facilitate communication between patients and family members and members of the healthcare team. He/ she will collaborate with nurses and managers to implement and evaluate holistic patient care delivery and serve as a resource to members of the healthcare team to facilitate delivery by using an in-depth pathophysiologic and psychosocial knowledge base. The critical care APRN will also work in conjunction with the critical care service to perform daily rounds on intensive care and intermediate care patients, facilitating execution of the prescribed treatment plan. He/She will ensure that acute stroke patients are seen in a timely fashion and receive comprehensive care. The APRN will request consultations as needed from other services and will maintain awareness of all consulting actions and his patients.

* REPORTS TO: Physician Director of Intensive Care and Assistant Vice President of Medical Surgical Services

* QUALIFICATIONS:

* Current Registered Professional Nurse and Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in New Jersey.

* Master s Degree in Nursing required, Doctorate (DNP, PhD) preferred

* Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing practice experience, primarily in the area of specialty.
