Job Description RMB Aerospace Product Engineering SUMMARY: RMB Product Engineer will drive new product design and continuation efforts within a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment, as it relates to Rotational Molding. This position ideally requires knowledge and skills in a variety of engineering functions within the Engineering Department, specifically the design and manufacture of parts/products for Rotational Molding of plastics. Preferred candidate experience includes part analysis/design, mold and fixture design, assembly/manufacturing processes and inspection, specification interpretation, qualification testing, GD & T interpretation, engineering BOM creation and maintenance, drawing creation and revision control, AS 9102 quality requirements, and PDM systems. Primary work assignments will be specific in scope and determined based on the Product Engineer s focus in support of Commercial and Military Aerospace markets. Candidates must possess some project management experience. This position reports to the VP of Program Management/Engineering. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Designs and/or supervises the design of products, tooling, and fixtures; Create product structure (bill of materials-BOM, routing); Works with Document Control to prepare work instructions as needed for production processes to ensure manufacturability and attainment of quality requirements; Works with RMB Sales and customers to evaluate and specify design requirements as needed; Reviews and evaluates specifications and details to ensure compliance; Prepares and/or supervises preparation of detailed plans, specifications, and cost estimates for new products; Prepares work instructions as needed for production processes to ensure manufacturability and quality products; Analyzes and evaluates designs, and drawings; Works with other business functions to manage and implement cost reduction initiatives; Acts as project manager and heads up NPD (New Product Development) Team; Manage projects through shake-out process and First Article, which includes part design, tooling design and manufacture, molding, trimming, and inspection; Provide manufacturing with a Production Ready Process; Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service; Reviews and evaluates aerospace, ASME, and military specifications and details to ensure compliance; REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of: Fundamental scientific mechanical engineering concepts, phenomena, and relationships; Development and derivation of formulas and relationships, basic assumptions made, and limitations and areas of applicability of established mechanical engineering principles, methods, and techniques. Ability to:Analyze and design plastic products;Analyze mold and fixture designs for optimal performance;Utilizing engineering disciplines, including process capability, analyze rotational molding performance to provide a production ready process;Design tools, management of tool fabrication, lead tool qualification and ensure acceptance of part First Article Inspection;Work closely with production in value-add assembly of molded parts;Diagnose and trouble shoot parts/tool/process during shake-out, lead part failure analyses, design and implement process controls, testing and inspection techniques. Organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific engineering problems and prediction of results.Keep abreast of changes in scientific knowledge and engineering technology, and utilize such changes in solution of theoretical or practical mechanical engineering problems;Communicate in the English language with customers, clients, and the public using telephone and email, as well as face-to-face meetings;Estimate labor or material costs from drawings or work plans;Produce documents written in the English language using proper sentence construction, punctuation, grammar, and spelling;Work cooperatively with others;Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards. Experience and Training: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or design engineering A minimum of 5 years of experience using Solid Works for design, desired skills include advanced tool design, surfacing and creating of complex CAD assemblies. Past experience in engineered plastics is highly desirable.
