POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Application Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining systems used by Engineering for to days operations such as source control, build automation, bug reporting, and documentation. In addition, this position will also be accountable for maintaining system integrity such as security, change management, and backups.





RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains production servers used by Engineering consisting of mixed Windows/Linux servers and applications

Deploys patches and upgrades for operating system and applications

Provides support for internal tools and resources used by engineering. These include source control, build automation, bug tracking, documentation, and product/tools file storage

Monitors system tools used to track system resource utilization, provide outage notifications, monitor system logs, and centralize management of applications, configurations, and user access to engineering production servers

Responsible for responding to outage notifications and log incident reports with outage details and resolutions.

Adheres to change management policy to ensure system integrity and accountability

Manages integrity of failover and backups of all engineering production servers

Researches new tools to assist engineering in improving current processes and/or provide tools for added support on ongoing development and testing efforts

Assists in the development of processes and best practices for engineering tools and engineering production servers

Provides instructions either through documentation, training, or both on using tools and services offered by the operations group to engineering

Works with Corporate IT group in troubleshooting issues affecting engineering build network, production server hardware, and nightly backups

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science or above in Computer Science or related field of study

At least 1-year experience in software development, or systems administration.

Experience with Redhat Linux based distributions

Experience with RAID controllers and other storage devices

Experience with network storage such as NAS, SAN, and NFS

Experience managing network services such as Apache, Samba, and SSH

Experience with software configuration management such as Subversion, GIT, and

Surround

Experience with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 2003 server, and 2008 server

Proficient in one or more languages like Perl, Python, Ruby, Rails, C , Java, PHP, Flex, Bash, PowerShell.

Knowledge of other Unix/Linux based OS such as Debian, Ubuntu, Solaris, and

FreeBSD

Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite and the OSI network model

Familiar with using/administration of change management (i.e. Puppet, Chef).

Familiar with network monitoring tools such as Nagios, Cacti, Syslog, and Munin
