GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director coordinates and directs activities of the Environmental Services Department (EVS) through managers and employees; continuously improves processing and developing standards to ensure high levels of cleanliness and infection control. The Assistant Director will work with peers in all matters relating to department operations in order to establish and maintain solid and mutually beneficial business relationships. Ensures that all personnel in EVS comply with all department, government, corporate and division policies and procedures. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.





PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



*

Collaborates with Medical Center leadership and peers in all matters related to EVS operations and Infection Control in order to establish and maintain solid and mutually beneficial relationships.
*

Sets and enforces department policies and procedures.
*

Implements LEAN principles as directed by management.
*

Oversees a staff.
*

Directs and supports managers with functional area responsibilities.
*

Acts as a mentor to supervisory staff.
*

Ensures that managers and supervisors are managing employees to bring out their best work, encouraging participation in decision making and identifying areas that need improvement.
*

Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies and procedures.
*

Recommends and implements new and/or modified programs, services, policies and procedures.
*

Responsibility for planning, monitoring and managing department budgets.
*

Directs and supports managers with functional area responsibilities.
*

Responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
*

Responsible for planning, monitoring and managing budgets for multiple departments.
*

Other relevant duties as required.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
*

8 or more years of related work experience required.
*

5 or more years of supervisory/management experience required.
*

5 or more years of experience in a hospital, hospitality management or related setting required.
*

Ability to display cultural sensitivity with a diverse population required.
*

Excellent communications skills, collaborative management style required.
*

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
