Position Summary: The assistant director is responsible for all aspects of the new PIIRS International Fellows Program, which will recruit an elite group of the best, early career (no more than 10 years after the Ph.D.) faculty employed at universities around the world. With the PIIRS director and the program's faculty director, the assistant director plays a key role in the annual search for 6 international fellows for 1-2 year appointments and in the review of applications (potentially 1,000 per year).

He/she assists with the coordination of the fellows' academic program throughout the year.

This is a 50%-time, 12-month position.

Specifically, the assistant director:

-- Advertises the fellowships internationally via the Internet and listservs, and in scholarly publications; meets all requirements of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty for the online application process and the final appointments; answers applicants' questions; with the faculty director and a committee of Princeton faculty fellows, reviews applications and makes the first cut of applicants' dossiers; oversees the distribution and evaluation of dossiers in a complex multi-tiered selection process involving relevant faculty, departments, and programs in the social sciences and humanities; and coordinates and participates in interviews (12-15) by Skype and in person. The assistant director must be able to develop extensive resources on recruiting internationally.

-- Coordinates with the fellows on their moves to the U.S., assists with securing housing on or off campus as needed, advises on complex visa arrangements in coordination with the Davis International Center, and sets up orientation workshops. Helps to integrate fellows into relevant departments and into the University as a whole. Advises fellows as needed on opportunities for spouses and on schools for children.

-- Assists with the organization of the fellows' academic program of regular lunch seminars and workshops. Coordinates with the program faculty director and other relevant faculty on the agenda.

-- Organizes or oversees regular cultural and/or social events.

-- Develops (with the program faculty director) and manages (with the PIIRS business coordinator), an annual program budget of approximately $1.2 million.

-- Develops and oversees the program's website in cooperation with the PIIRS web developer.

Requirements:
Position Requires:

A Ph.D. in one of the social sciences or humanities, demonstrated managerial and communication skills, and knowledge of basic financial operations are essential.

The assistant director must be able to work easily and tactfully with faculty and administrators at all levels from across campus and abroad. He/she must welcome the challenge of serving as PIIRS' liaison to a wide-range of international education institutions and of helping to establish the reputation of the fellows program. The assistant director must be able to maintain the program's website.
