SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide legal advice to business groups on a wide variety of matters focusing on regulatory proceedings and Tariff filings. Prepare contracts, file briefs, arguments, pleadings and other legal documents. Collaborate with Government Affairs, Client Relations, and Stakeholder Relations on membership and regulatory issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Research and analyze facts, laws or decisions made in similar cases for preparation of company cases.
* Draft testimony and assist witnesses with filed testimony preparation.
* Partner with outside counsel and other members of management to ensure compliance and effectiveness of regulatory legal and membership matters.
* Counsel and advise company managers and officers on legal matters and associated risks; review policies and make recommendations for change.
* Establish the vision for the practice area and ensure that staff is aware of and supports this vision.
* Establish the mission for the practice area and ensure that projects undertaken by the Legal department support and foster organizational direction and goals.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the services provided by the department are meeting company needs.
* Mentor or coach staff to achieve individual and organizational excellence.
* Support and serve on internal and external committees, task forces, and working groups.
* Compliance with all processes, procedures, and standards applicable to the position including (but not limited to): SSAE16 (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16), CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection), Change Management, Tariff (Open Access Transmission, Energy and Operating Reserve Markets Tariff), FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* Juris Doctorate required.
* Licensed with good standing to practice law in one of the fifty U.S. states required
Experience:
* Fifteen years corporate, law firm or legal required
* Business or utility litigation, administrative law, corporate matters, finance or utility regulatory matters required
* Seven years supervisory required
