POSITION SUMMARY: To assist the teacher in providing direct early educational services to enrolled children based on sound child development principles, developmentally appropriate practices, WV state licensing requirements, CDC and WVUH policies and procedures.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
Possess a WV Training Certificate in Early Care Education (WVTCECE) OR ACDS completion or a CDA credential / Associate s
Degree in Early Care and Education OR twelve (12) college credits in an early care and education field.
Staff working with children twenty-four (24) months of age and under must complete forty (40) hours of approved training related to the care of children twenty-four (24) months of age within the first six months of employment.
Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
Abuse Recognition & Prevention within 6 months of employment
15 Hours of Annual Professional Development training during the first (1st) year of employment and thereafter complete the approved training necessary to keep the WV STARS credential current which is 45 clock hours of approved training every three years.
Food Handler Card within 90 days of hire date.
One (1) year working directly with or on behalf of children from birth through (8) years of age required.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
High School Diploma or GED, is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Assists the teacher in planning, organizing and implementing the delivery of quality child development programs in accordance with applicable program policy and best practices with regard to this implementation. Assures the safety and well-being of each child. Assists the teacher in providing a healthy, sanitary and organized learning environment. Assists the teacher in maintaining all equipment in good repair. Assists the teacher in developing an environment that is conducive to both group and individual learning and exploration. Adheres to the center curriculum with enthusiasm and a desire to maximize learning opportunities. Maintains a creative spirit reflective of a true commitment to children and early childhood education. Maintains a working understanding of the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) and the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) as a classroom quality measure.
Maintains a relationship with each enrolled child based on professional and ethical standards in the field of early childhood education. Provides direct service to children based on center policy and WV State Licensing standard. Maintains an awareness of each child s developmental level and takes direction from the teacher on how to plan for learning experiences based on individualized goals and objectives. Interacts with children in an age appropriate and positive manner utilizing appropriate behavior management techniques as directed by the teacher. Assists the teacher in providing for the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and cultural well-being of each child. Assists the teacher in providing for the development of each child s social/self-help skills during meals, snack, rest, toileting and diapering times. Assist the teacher in all types of record keeping as directed.
Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with parents based on mutual respect and a true understanding of their childcare needs. Maintains a professional and cordial relationship with parents regarding daily activities and scheduling. Reports information regarding physical, behavioral or developmental concerns to parent or guardian only with the approval of the teacher, program assistant or director. Maintains sensitivity to the needs of all children and their families.
Strives toward a level of professional competency that is respected by all center staff by acting as a team player. May also be asked to mentor volunteers and student interns as needed. Represents the Child Development Center in a professional manner maintaining the confidentiality of the operation and the clients. Participates in center special events. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required/needed. Communicates appropriately and effectively with fellow staff and management. Supports decisions made by the teacher and management for the good of center operations. Establishes and maintains a current personnel file by completing a health assessment every 2 years and TB test every year, a current CPR and first aid card, current food handlers card, record of on-going training, 2 written references, CIB at least every 5 years, statement of criminal record every 2 years, record of accidents/sick leave, date of employment, past child care experience, record of education, emergency contact, address, phone number and date of birth and a completed, signed and dated, Child Maltreatment Record Search Release. Adheres to CDC and WVUH expectations of employees.

Must agree to perform light work including exerting up to 40lbs. of force occasionally and up to 10lbs.of force frequently. Must have the ability to climb using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Must be able to reach, stand, walk, push, pull, bend and lift.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of core competencies of early childhood educators as stated in Appendix 78-1 A of the WVDHHR Child Care Center Licensing Regulations.
Must have basic computer skills in word processing, data entry and internet skills.
Possess positive communication and customer satisfaction skills.
