The Associate Project Manager is responsible for managing the proposal
development process for primarily small, custom bids (on average up to
250 questions per bid), from receipt of the RFP through proposal
submission. The Associate Project Manager is responsible for
concurrently managing multiple proposals (on average, 5-8 proposals at
one time) with aggressive deadlines (on average, 7-day turnaround).
RFP process includes appropriately engaging sales, account management,
and other cross-functional leadership to review and develop bid strategy
and working together to understand and resolve any bid challenges;
formatting RFP response documents in accordance with Express Scripts
brand; researching and incorporating responses from our response
database and working with subject matter experts to develop custom
responses for questions that need further research or buy-in; working
with client pricing to provide a pricing arrangement and responses to
pricing-specific questions, and physically submitting our proposal
response externally. In all cases, this position is responsible for
ensuring the responses to requests and questions are compliant with RFP
requirements instructions and Express Scripts contractual obligations,
including negotiating responses to requirements with cross-functional
partners to reach the most favorable position to increase compliance
rates with our benefit advisors (BAs) and overall client win and
retention rates, while appropriately mitigating business risk.
Additionally, the Associate Project Manager is responsible for actively
participating in cross-functional projects and process enhancements
across the team. The Associate Project Manager mentors and trains new
Associate Project Managers.
assigned proposal projects to include: analysis, research,
writing/editing responses to RFI/RFP questionnaires; negotiate
requirements in any RFP questionnaires with appropriate cross-functional
SMEs; create proposal documents and other exhibits to support the
defined sales strategy and strengths of company s product and service
offerings. Manage and facilitate requirements to ensure they are in line
with the corporate position; working with cross-functional SMEs to get
agreements to requirements and increase our overall requirements
* Work cross-functionally to execute
proposal projects, including cross- functional team communications,
timelines, and follow-up, to ensure accurate, complete and quality input
from operational areas to complete proposal production for on time
delivery. Generate proposal and sales documents while adhering to
corporate marketing standards, department guidelines, templates, and
styles. Coordinate production and shipping to ensure accurate and on-
time delivery. Resolve issues and conflict with appropriate
* Serve as Subject Matter Expert for
assigned Tier 2 (less complex and smaller BAs) benefit advisor (second
or third tier). Collaborate with Strategic Relations Director (SRD) to
develop/demonstrate/share expert knowledge of the BA relationship.
* Contribute to culture of continuous improvements and
shares ownership of process improvement efforts. Display sound critical
thinking skills, brings forth ideas. Actively participate in ad hoc
projects and process ownership/responsibility, working with both
internal partners and cross-functional partners to define, develop, and
implement process improvements.
* Provide training,
coaching, and mentoring of new team members as it relates to proposals
and/or projects applicable to the Associate Project Manager role.
* Bachelor s degree in Business,
Pre-Law, English, Journalism or Communication or equivalent work
experience; Master s degree preferred. Project management and previous
proposal experience preferred.
* Bachelor s degree and 2-5 years
relevant business experience ; or Master s degree and 0-2 years of
relevant experience ; PBM experience preferred. Without a degree 8-11
years relevant experience. * PMI certification a plus.
* PC, Microsoft Office, Visio
project management skills; Excellent communication and organizational
skills; Demonstrated cross functional team leadership ability; Ability
to handle multiple projects and complete projects under tight and
varying deadlines; Ability to work well in a team environment, and
independently; Working knowledge of word processing, graphics,
spreadsheet, and database software; Prior proposal writing experience in
PBM/healthcare industry preferred.
