JOB DESCRIPTIONEMD Serono is looking for an Associate Scientist to join the Exploratory Immunology group of the Translational Innovation Platform Immunology. The successful candidate will participate in biomarker discovery and validation, using a variety of cell based and biochemical assays and tools to characterize the function of new genes in human immune pathologies. In addition to expertise in immunology and cellular biology the candidate will be required to exhibit open-minded and innovative approaches and an ability to learn and acquire new techniques and methodologies. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills and work well independently and as part of a team. The position is a hands-on, laboratory based role. The candidate is expected to be able to plan, design and develop methodologies, analyze, record and report data and execute projects according to plans and protocols with appropriate supervision.
BS degree in immunology, biology, biochemistry or biological science with at least 3-5 years of experience or a Masters Degree in immunology, biology, biochemistry or related discipline with 1-2 years of relevant experience.
Required Experience and Skills:
* Experience in handling and isolation of primary human immune cells using sterile technique
* Experience in protein characterization, e.g. Western blot
* Experience in diverse types of immunological assays (ELISA, Luminex, immunohistochemistry)
* Experience in performing gene expression analysis using qPCR,
* Strong sense of work ethic, urgency and creativity
* Proficiency in scientific computer programs including Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism
* Excellent communication skills and record keeping
* Excellent organizational skills and safe lab practices
Preferred Experience and Skills:
* Flow cytometry
* Cell-based assay design, development and validation
* Compound screening and IC50 generation
* ADA Requirements
* Normal and routine office duties
