This exciting opportunity is part of Momentive Performance Materials Inc.
* Project focus will be implementation, optimization and troubleshooting of automation and process machine systems in support of Momentive s new state-of-the-art automated manufacturing platforms.
* Member of a cross-functional project team responsible for supporting cost-effective and quality-critical integrated manufacturing operations through effective troubleshooting and system improvements to ensure equipment uptime and reliability.
Work with commercially available PLC, robotic, motion control and vision systems to troubleshoot and resolve process deviations, faults and errors on custom integrated production equipment. Identify and implement process improvements focused on optimizing equipment uptime, performance and production costs for Momentive s newly installed manufacturing processes.
Actively participate in all phases of the automation projects including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer. Independently follow construction of equipment in vendors facilities.
Make changes to robot motion profiles and adjust taught robot positions as required. Uses the risk assessment process to document and design safety systems that are in compliance with regulations and good manufacturing practices.
Interface with external system integrators and machine builders as required to successfully satisfy performance measures.
Routinely perform elementary design calculations; i.e., motor speed/torque, I/O and memory sizing, area of control/sensitivity of proximity and photo equipment, etc.
Individual must be capable of executing project assignments, in a team based environment, with minimal supervision.
Self-learner / self-starter who is able to exceed expectations for their objectives and timelines with a minimal amount of supervision
Ability to work on a diverse, multicultural project team
Ability to effectively deal with high levels of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change
Strong communication skills
Must be Fluent in Japanese and English
Minimum of 3 years manufacturing plant experience or equivalent
Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, PLC programming, motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, vision systems, safety systems, risk assessments, and system integration.
High level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent in the position. Ability and interest to learn, and apply, new technologies in support of overall technical objectives.
Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of system implementation.
Ability to work in a team based environment and participate on a highly matrixed team.
Possesses an understanding of general mechanics and be able to apply it in troubleshooting and system design.
Sound problem solving and decision making processes and skills.
Highly motivated, results oriented, with a high commitment level.
Familiarity with one or more of Seimens, Allen Bradley or Mitsubishi PLC programing (most current products desired)
Experience with Lenze motors/motion controls and/or programming Fanuc robots. Experience designing, developing and delivering fully integrated machine and motion control, automation, and process machine systems to manufacturing.
Experience or familiarity communicating/interfacing with SCADA & MES systems.
Entrepreneurial/innovative (be able to conceive and design system never before demonstrated).
Forward looking (knows what the big picture is and be able to project this view).
Prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing.
Knowledgeable in applicable national and international electrical and robotic design and safety codes.
2D and 3D software design tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
BS or MS Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Equivalent.
