JOB DESCRIPTIONAutomation and Controls Technician

Job Summary :
Operate as a team member of the plant Engineering group, responsible for automation and control systems on site. This will mainly be within the processing and packaging areas, but support may also be required with the building, utility, and site control systems. This position includes troubleshooting of HMI s, PLC systems, VFD, electrical, controls, and mechanical issues. Improve RSLogix 5 / 500 / 5000 and other control systems, Ethernet communications networks, HMI equipment, and existing PLC control systems. This technician must possess good communication skills for interaction with contractors and internal project teams, and must possess demonstrated problem solving techniques and have the confidence to be an active decision maker. Read and utilize ladder logic programs, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and general blueprints. When required assist with preventative maintenance on plant process and packaging equipment. This position reports directly to the Automation and Controls Supervisor, and will be expected to be a self-motivated leader, developing continuous improvement projects as well as supporting the line technicians with technical issues as required, and being a champion of the change management process.
Job Requirements :
Education: 2 Year minimum of Technical Training
Experience: 5 or more years of industrial or military experience in both troubleshooting and programming. Electrical background plus demonstrated mechanical knowledge.
Knowledge of P&ID s, building protection, access systems and facility maintenance desirable.
SKILLS: Training in Ethernet communication protocol, Allen-Bradley PLC software, including RS Logix 5, 500, and 5000, RSBatch, FactoryTalk, View, PanelBuilder 32, and RSView 32. Formal Allen Bradley certification desired. Rockwell Historian experience is an advantage. Detailed knowledge of proper wiring procedures, control circuits, circuit diagrams and single and three phase power systems to include NFPA70E requirements. Also detailed knowledge of troubleshooting PLC based control systems.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Position requires bending and climbing, especially up ladders as routine functions of job. Require stair climbing for multiple flights of stairs both inside and outside. Also requires occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

* Ability to modify existing PLC projects and control software to include Ladder, Graphical, Structured Text, SFC, and CFC. These platforms include Allen Bradley RSLogix 5, 500, and 5000 and Siemen s PLC s, drives and electrical systems. Troubleshoot, maintain, monitor and upgrade performance of all existing process and packaging control systems
* Backup PLC and HMI software. Maintain devices and communication in DeviceNet, ControlNet and ASI Bus systems. Setup and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley variable frequency motor drives. Evaluate and monitor performance of plant communication systems. Champion the change management process.
* Validation of existing control systems through testing protocols. Upgrading old control systems as needed to improve efficiency, improve capabilities, protect from obsolescence and maximize uptime.
