JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Bulfinch Temporary Service is currently looking for an assistant for the Research Space Management Group. This position is 40 hours per week and begins ASAP. Please note this position is temporary in nature and not eligible for benefits.
The Research Space Management Group (RSMG) is responsible to ECOR and the SVP for Research for all aspects of research space allocation and configuration.
The department is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing all information regarding allocation and utilization of research space. The department monitors the utilization of space owned or leased by MGH for the purpose of research activities and is responsible for the identification of space utilization trends involving this space that may indicate that some space is not being to the best and highest possible use. RSMG investigates the circumstances surrounding these situations and prepares recommended resolutions for review by the Research Space Advisory Committee (RSAC) and, if necessary, by the Research Institute Executive Committee.
RSMG reviews recommendations for reallocation of existing research space, occupancy plans for new research space, and recommendations concerning the most efficient use of under-utilized research space.
In cooperation with RSAC and the SVP for Research, RSMG is responsible for the development of a set of measurable research metrics to be applied to various research entities in an equitable manner. These metrics will include, but might not be limited to, IC density (IC recovery per square foot), MTDC density (MTDC per square foot), FTE Occupancy ratio (percentage of occupied seats vs. available seats), and FTE density (square foot per FTE).
RSMG is also responsible for maintaining the hospital research asset management system in accordance with appropriate government and hospital accounting policies, and is a key participant in Partners iSuggest program. The Department has responsibility for management and operation of a number of MGHs major research buildings, with the goal of facilitating the paradigm of interdepartmental collaborative science, promoting cost reduction and reducing administrative demands on the MGH research community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant will identify, observe, describe, and document all of the operational processes involved in the departments business practices.
Will work with the permanent staff to identify which of the business practices may be described as core practices and on which the department should concentrate. At the same time, identify processes, if any, in which the department participates, because nobody else does them well.
Will work with the permanent staff to adapt project management software, or other available application, to track project components and costs. In addition, the intern will help develop appropriate standards against which the Departments results can be measured.
Help determine if Department would benefit from introduction of continuous process review.
Participate in weekly departmental staff meetings.

Bachelor's Degree Required
