The Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute (DOE JGI, a division of Berkeley Lab) has an exciting opportunity available for a Bioinformaticist Postdoctoral Fellow who will work as part of a team including biologists, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists from JGI to develop scripts for data analysis, analyze data, and publish scientific manuscripts describing results. This position reports to the Fungal Program head and will work under the general supervision of a Principal Investigator.
Assemble, annotate, and analyze fungal genomics and transcriptomics datasets.
Develop software for comparative genomics analysis and use it for analysis of new data.
Build statistical models to describe metabolic models and gene networks.
Prepare research results for publication and for presentations at scientific meetings.
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Life Sciences or related discipline.
Candidates must have received a Ph.D. within the last three years.
Experience with bioinformatics algorithms, data mining, and genomics data analysis.
Programming experience and familiarity with database systems.
Fluency in Python/perl/R.
The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.
This is a 1 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 of years paid postdoctoral experience.
Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
This position requires completion of a background check.
