Job Description


This position is responsible for identifying and developing a portfolio of new accounts for retail electric supply by cold-calling prospects through self-generated leads, as well as renewing customers upon expiration. The ideal candidate will have an existing book of business and contacts in the non-regulated electric industry (retail gas, electric, and or energy efficiency). Target customers will be in the 50kW - 5MWh range, but will depend on location, segment, experience level, and technical competence. The BDM will sell directly to C&I customers, not through third-party channel partners, brokers or agents. This is a Direct Sales position.


* Develops and maintains key customer relationships with both existing and potential clients
* Meets with customers and prospects to understand their business requirements via telephone, direct contact, networking, and leads follow up activities
* Ability to identify, prospect and contact high-level decision makers in mid-sized commercial and industrial businesses and to cultivate client relationships
* Presents products, overcomes objections, asks for the sale, and closes the deal in order to achieve the required gross margin
* Function as the primary account advocate between current and potential customers and the company regarding questions or disputes
* Maintain assigned levels of sales to produce consistent results above or at quota
* Implement strategic sales plans to meet individual and group sales targets
* Present reporting and financial tools to customers and prospects
* Present and close energy sales transactions in a highly proficient, professional, and ethical manner


* Business to Business sales experience required
* Unregulated energy commodity sales preferred
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills
* Ability to develop and present formal presentations to internal and external groups
* Must be self-directed and able to learn business and new products quickly
* Ability to work and contribute as an effective team player in a fast paced sales environment
* Aptitude to work independently with minimum supervision to adapt to changing job functions and environment
* Must have excellent product and customer knowledge to educate customers on pricing and the application of competitive advantages to meet or exceed customer needs
