Vertellus is currently seeking a BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, MEDICAL to be located at either our office in PARSIPPANY, NJ or our headquarters in INDIANAPOLIS, IN. Exceptional remote candidates will be considered. This role will be accountable for hitting the annual plan and achieving growth for the business segment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Business Director, Performance Materials, on all facets of market and business development. Focus will include business line growth goals as well as maintenance of existing business.
The Medical segment includes biomaterials and polymer-systems with product lines that include biocompatible polymers, monomers, and sealing-potting systems for use in medical devices, for example in dialyzers, nephrology, coronary devices, contact lenses, stents, and catheters.
A particular focus will be new business generation based on knowledge of the healthcare market and value-added potential of the technology offering, and management of key customer accounts. The Business DevelopmentManager must consistently develop and deliver new application and product opportunities that leverage Vertellus' medical technology and convert into commercial results.
* Lead commercial activities for Medical segment of Performance Materials SBU.
* Developing new business partnerships and managing important customer accounts, including technical support and contract management
* Identifying, prioritizing and developing new application and business opportunities for biomaterials technologies through market research of medical device and non-medical application areas and market development work, evaluation of new applications and championing of new product development programs using stage gate process, effective marketing to potential customers, and acting as liaison with technical teams from development to product launch
* Providing market and competitive analysis
* Managing marketing activities
* Assisting in the development and formulation of biomaterials strategies
* Continually improving biomaterial business processes
* Travel up to 50% of the time
Technical Bachelor's degree (preferably chemistry, polymer technology or materials science) and significant on-the-job scientific and/or medical device market experience.
Detailed knowledge of the materials used in medical device manufacture, their properties and limitations and a good understanding of the concept of biocompatibility
Business development experience (MBA desired and/or successful business experience, preferably in medical device and/or pharmaceuticals highly desirable)
International work experience, preferably with both multinational, blue chip companies and smaller, start-ups, with special emphasis placed on UK, EU, and Japan.
Experience in managing marketing activities (promotion, tradeshows, etc)
Work experience with Quality and Matrix management systems a plus.
Effective interpersonal, verbal/written communication, presentation and report writing skills
Strong market research, analysis capabilities, defining un-met needs, and development of value propositions.
Experience and ability to structure, negotiate and close development, licensing and supply agreements
Knowledge of Regulatory Affairs and IP surrounding materials and medical devices.
Excellent problem-solving and time management skills and IT proficiency
Minimum of 5 years' experience in workingfor medical device companies with emphasis on product development and/or firm(s) supplying materials to the: contact lenses and eye care, medical device markets (including dialysis, cardio-pulmonary-bypass, stents, and catheters).10 years' experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of other relevant, key technologies: polymer science, blood activation, human body inflammatory response, and anti-microbial action.
