The Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist's role is to strategically design and implement BI software and systems, including integration with databases and data warehouses. This includes selecting, blueprinting, gathering requirements, designing, and rolling out BI solutions to end users. The Business Intelligence Specialist is also responsible for ensuring high levels of BI availability through support functions and in-depth testing.
Strategy and Planning
Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction with end users, managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
Acquisition and Deployment
Conduct research and make recommendations on BI products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
Evaluate database/data warehouse components
Make Hardware recommendations to infrastructure team
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct, organize, and lead projects in the implementation and use of new BI software tools and systems.
Lead the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
Design, code, test, and document all new or modified BI systems, applications, and programs.
Assist in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with BI solutions.
Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for BI front-end applications.
Produce ETL design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for the BI system.
Work with project managers to ensure that data entry, retrieval, change, and delete functions meet business requirements for project completion.
Design and deliver end-user training and training materials and provide technical support as necessary.
Troubleshoot BI tools, systems, and software; performance-tune these applications as necessary.
Support reporting needs of the business through Webi reports, SAP dashboards, and SAP Live Office
Monitor Business Objects servers CPU and memory usage in Windows server 2008
Monitor Business Objects systems using central Management Console (CMC).
Manage security through CMC to users, groups, folders, and universes.
Assist in and Creating Reports in Business Objects 4.1 SP4
Assist with creating or maintaining Dashboards in SAP
Manage user issues through a help desk reporting system for cases assigned to the Business Intelligence group
College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or computer engineering
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum of 5 years direct work experience in SAP Business Objects
Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience, with full knowledge of data warehouse methodologies and data modeling.
Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practice including knowledge of advanced SQL concepts using Inner/Outer joins, sub-queries, Group By, Unions.
Recent experience in Business Objects version 4.1
Experience with Business Objects 4.1 CMC including Universe and Folder Security, User and Group Security, Instance Manager, Server Manager
Expertise in Business Objects 4.1 Universe Design Tool including universes with multiple contexts
Demonstrated ability to work with Windows Server 2008 and Linux operating systems
Experience with ETL tools such as Oracle Warehouse Builder, SAP Data Services, or COGNOS data manager.
Ability to analyze user requirements and build front-end BI applications according to specifications
Experience with database applications including Oracle 11G or SQL Server
