Position Summary:

Berkeley Labs Engineering Division has an opportunity for a CAD Administrator who will be responsible for a broad range of development and operational tasks critical for maintaining and enhancing system-wide CAD application, data management and the work-flow required from design to finished component. This position will manage all aspects of various CAD applications and the vast and complex infrastructure supporting them.

Specific Responsibilities:


Manage end user support for CAD applications, solve complex technical issues that arise. Independently plan and coordinate software installation, creation of templates and custom symbols.

Deploy and maintain various servers in a virtualized infrastructure.

Develop and document design standards, user guides and procedures to create uniform project drawings and documentation.

Determine methods and make recommendations and help implement software functionality improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy and consistency in work output.

Plan and coordinate efforts in automating as much of our engineering workflow as possible through use of various scripts.

Train staff on CAD software usage.

Provide end user technical support for Engineering CAD applications

Provide innovative solutions to common problems that arise with managing a large IT footprint.

Additional Desired Responsibilities:


Work with other members of the Engineering CAD group to streamline and customize our engineers PLM experience.

Determine and develop mechanisms for storing data and integrating third party applications within our PLM systems.

Contribute to standards and quality assurance documentation, parameterize document and drawing templates, and with maintaining Engineerings large server infrastructure.

Work on Linux backend to assist in manipulating large data sets for database entry, develop shell scripts for automation, manage cron jobs, help in the development of Engineering applications in the PHP/MySQL (MariaDB)/Apache stack when necessary.

Required Qualifications:


Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and/or a minimum of 8 years related experience

Demonstrated knowledge of one or more CAD tools (could include: SolidWorks, Creo Parametric, SolidEdge, NX, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo Elements/Direct, etc.) and their usage

Demonstrated experience with planning and coordinating the implementation/upgrade of PLM applications

Working knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems

Experience with low level Unix/Linux server services

Demonstrated experience performing in a team atmosphere involving multi-discipline personnel

Experience managing servers and services to maximize up time

Additional Desired Qualifications:


Experience using, upgrading and developing workflows in PLM (Product LifeCycle Management) systems

Experience in development and maintenance of PLM part libraries

3D mechanical modeling with emphasis on large assemblies

Ability to understand and develop PHP, Java

Understanding of SQL

Experience managing electrical engineering documents in PLM

Experience in Requirements Management solutions

Working knowledge of GIT or SVN version control system

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.

Notes: This is a 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of renewal and with the possibility of conversion to career. This position requires completion of a background check.
