Instruct patients on proper collection of specimens; perform venipunctures and finger sticks; prepare and process specimens for labs. Perform and evaluate laboratory tests in hematology, urinalysis, serology and microbiology. Bring new procedures or methodology in-house; write, review, and update policy and procedure manuals. Develop and maintain appropriate inventory. Train staff in performing procedures and tasks related to a laboratory technologist, as well as general laboratory support. Provide assistance to staff in solving technical problems and respond to technical inquiries from physicians and staff.

Perform and evaluate quality control procedures. Supervise and evaluate results of tests performed by unlicensed personnel. Perform instrument preventive maintenance, calibration and trouble shooting. Maintain quality assurance data, log books and statistics. Type/word process, file and distribute lab reports. Provide input to the lab director on laboratory operation. Maintain contact with reference labs. Follow guidelines to ensure continued State Licensure for the lab. Perform other lab duties as requested by lab director. Use, maintain, and upgrade LIS as needed. Use EMR as appropriate.



Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license. a minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Clinical Lab Scientist.

Demonstrated ability to select and prepare specimen.

Skill in interpreting lab test results commonly used in clinic area. Knowledge of proper safety and sterile procedures in a laboratory setting.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of professional staff and patients, with tact and diplomacy.

Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory equipment.

Ability to operate a clinical microscope, perform bacteriology and sensitivity testing, perform cell counts and other tests performed in the laboratory.

Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work under pressure, calmly and efficiently, and cope with variable workloads and work as a team member and produce results in a timely fashion.


Knowledge, and technical ability to use, maintain, and troubleshoot the interaction between the electronic medical information system, the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and the reference lab computer system and interface for the ordering and resulting of laboratory tests.



Current CPR Certification.

A clear background check is required.

Must complete initial mandatory health requirements, and current clear TB test results and flu vaccination. In the absence of immunization records, titer test or blood test will be required to determine if other immunizations are needed.

TB screening & flu vaccination is required annually.

Must complete initial credential verification, & re-credentialing every 3rd year thereafter.
