GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under general direction of the Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Informatics, the Informatics Pharmacist is responsible for the development and use of technology and automation used in providing patients with optimum pharmaceutical care. The pharmacist acts as a liaison with technology vendors, IS department and other departments, as required. This role requires technical excellence, clinical know-how and organizational acumen.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works to ensure the timely and safe implementation of new applications and upgrades.
Recognizes, communicates, and escalates concerns in a timely manner.
Contributes to preparation of testing scripts and materials and performs unit, system, and integrated testing tasks related to software and hardware upgrades.
Works to resolve application issues by collaborating with users, vendors and other departments.
Maintains pharmacy information systems and databases for effective daily operations.
Recommends potential system changes to enhance system effectiveness based on department and hospital needs.
Communicates on a regular basis with the Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Informatics regarding updates on projects, timelines and issues and provides suggestions and recommendations to improve systems.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures for pharmacy technology and automation, including downtime procedures.
Attends weekly team meetings to discuss team and project related activities, issues, change, communications, and updates
Assists in training the staff for all computer systems and automation.
Ensures that applications are current, accurate, responsive, confidential and meet all applicable regulatory standards.
Develops and assists in the building of reports from all pharmacy systems using relational database tools, such
as Crystal Reports
Assists with pharmacy billing reconciliation
Represents the pharmacy on interdisciplinary hospital committees.
Maintains configuration settings in all pharmacy systems
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of contemporary hospital pharmacy systems EPIC and Omnicell preferred
Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations
Knowledge of purchasing and inventory systems
Bar coding technology
Knowledge of Crystal Reports
Knowledge of PC applications
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Attention to detail
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently.
Ability to understand the work environment and competing priorities in conjunction with developing/meeting project goals.
Ability to understand pharmacy processes and read, analyze and interpret pharmacy system data.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of managers and/or clients.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills: Clinical Informatics Pharmacist has regular interaction with pharmacy leadership, physicians, nurse managers, IT leaders and analysts, and Partners accounting managers and analysts
Ability to plan and manage a project, its tasks, dependencies, team members, other resources and timeline, and to prioritize and delegate accordingly.
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Education: Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy. PharmD desirable.
Valid license to practice as a pharmacist in MA.
Minimum of 5 years related experience, including experience with healthcare clinical systems.
Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy work flows
Experience with Health Information Systems and their application in clinical pharmacy and revenue management
Experience with Epic Willow and Epic Willow Inventory preferred.
Reporting experience with business intelligence tools, Crystal Reports preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail. Procedural and issue resolution documentation are important requirements of this role.
Ability to communicate well with people at all levels of a large organizationhospital, corporate departments and outside vendors.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment
Ability to work independently and on a team.
Ability to be flexible, versatile and adaptable in day to day activities. This may occasionally involve the requirement to work outside normal business hours to meet the needs of the clinical operations, may include on-call coverage as business needs dictate.
Must have experience in developing and integrating business processes.
