JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Details:
The Coding Specialist I trains and studies the clinical content of inpatient, outpatient and emergency medical records and learns to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM codes to diagnosis procedures and CPT and HCPCS codes to all procedures or physician services for optimal reimbursement. Focuses on accuracy while increasing productivity to meet Coding Specialist II qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
*Studies and analyzes the clinical content of a medical record.
*Assigns and sequences diagnosis and procedure codes appropriately to arrive at the correct DRG or APC assignment under the supervision of trained personnel.
*Enters coding information into the computer system for reimbursement use by Patient Financial Services for submitting patient's bills.
*Works to gain a thorough and updated knowledge of Clinical Coding Guidelines, Fiscal Intermediary directives, Coding Compliance standards and Local Medical Review policies.
*Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient information and office issues.
High school diploma or equivalency required. Class work in ICD-10-CM, CPT Coding, and related courses from an accredited college or acceptable program required. Prior coding experience in a medical environment preferred.
