Cardiac Monitor Tech (60098)

Minimum Qualification:

* High school graduate required.

* Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program preferred.


Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.


Provides monitoring function for all cardiac telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients and monitors a limited number of patients ordered pulse oximetry .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.0 Performs cardiac monitoring for all telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients on 10 East.

1.1 Each Cardiac Monitor Technician visually monitors between 45 and 50 patients per station on telemetry and hard-wire units in Telemetry Surveillance Center (TSC) located on 10 East.

1.2 Interprets and measures ECG strip with documentation on each monitored patient every eight hours and with any change in rhythm in designated notebook.

1.3 Monitors pulse oximetry for general pediatric population on 6 East and adult Orthopedic patients on 7 Northeast when indicated.

1.4 Maintains a log that indicates name of nurse and extension of his/her wireless phone assigned to each monitored patient each shift. Informs appropriate nurse of any dysrhythmia via his/her wireless phone.

1.5 Properly enters and deletes patients from the TSC at admission, transfer and discharge.

2.0 Assists in indirect patient care by managing inventory and assignment of certain patient equipment items on 10 East.

2.1 Keeps inventory of 10 East s telemetry units, assigns units to new patients, and retrieves units at discharge if needed.

2.2 Cleans each telemetry unit between each patient use.

2.3 Monitors equipment and assists with trouble shooting malfunctioning equipment with proper notification (ie: Healthcare Technology and Nurse Manager)

4.0 Assists in routine unit operation as directed/needed to ensure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. Ensures smooth communication with other units for whom cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring is being performed with proper documentation.

4.1 Maintains job specific expectations

4.2 Courteously answers telephone, identifying self and unit at all times.

4.3 Relays accurate message to appropriate receiver with documentation in a timely manner.

5.0 Other related duties/projects as assigned by Manager/Director.

6.0 Maintains HIPAA and JCAHO Standards

7.0 Competencies:

7.1 Able to achieve and maintain quarterly competency exam score of 80%.

I. Physical Requirements

Minimal physical activity required.

Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Vision (corrected)/hearing within normal limits.


Ability to visually monitor several computer screens with multiple cardiac rhythms for sustained periods of time.


Working closely with others (co-workers) and able to communicate effectively with the healthcare team
