JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant, under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner provides clinical and business office assistance in the offices and clinics of health care providers Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance): Perform telephone and in-person screening Obtain vital signs Obtain and record patient history Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas Prepare patient for and assist with routine and specialty examinations Prepare patient for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries Apply pharmacology principles to prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding medications) Medication Reconciliation Maintain medication and immunization records Screen and follow-up test results Perform an inventory of supplies and equipment Perform routine maintenance of administrative and clinical equipment Utilize computer software to maintain office systems Identify and respond to issues of confidentiality Provide instruction for health maintenance and disease prevention Schedule and manage appointments; obtain patient demographic and financial information and enter information into electronic practice management tools Organize patient communications to licensed medical practitioners and deliver information to patients as directed by the supervising medical practitioner Schedule inpatient and outpatient admissions and procedures Organize a patient s medical record File Medical Records Performs EKG, PFT, Audiometry, Titmus Test as indicated after a performance evaluation checklist completion. Also performs UDS, BAT, Phlebotomy, and other lab testing as indicated after performance evaluation checklist completion. Assists with collections/billing procedures as needed. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Knowledge, Education and Skills Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program. Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred: Surgical practice experience EPIC scheduling/electronic medical record Required Certification/Licensing: Current Certified Medical Assistant from Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or the National Association for Healthcare Professionals (NAHP), or the American Medical Certification Association, or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
