JOB DESCRIPTION

Description:
The Coolant Technology Applications (CTA) unit has
responsibility to evaluate and resolve issues related to
reactor plant and steam plant chemistry control and
monitoring in both current and new design naval nuclear
propulsion plants, in close integration with the power
plant engineering (systems), prototype operations,
reactor servicing, and chemistry laboratory communities.
CTA is responsible for application of water treatment,
water purification technology, and water purity
monitoring requirements and controls. CTA has
involvement in all phases of the propulsion plant
life-cycle from initial design to disposal (cradle to
grave). This can include emergent issues generated
during maintenance (at a naval facility) or operation
(at sea), evaluation of plant design, operation, and
maintenance simplification issues, end of plant life
testing, inactivation, and disposal. In addition, CTA is
responsible for reactor plant and steam plant
cleanliness control, which is the effort to minimize the
potential entry of foreign and/or detrimental materials
to reactor plant or steam plant components including the
adjudication of discrepant conditions. This effort is
important because it helps maximize the time that ships
can remain on patrol without material failures.
