Chemical Process Engineer (Manufacturing)

Description: SUMMARYSupport the implementation of Statistical Process Control (SPC). Drive plant cost reduction projects and provide chemical engineering and technical expertise to all departments. Duties will be discharged in a manner consistent with a total quality environment and the requirements of the company's systems. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Actively promote cost reduction progress in operating departments by stimulating, fostering and developing ideas. Provide technical resources and guidance to assure completion and implementation of approved projects. Stimulate continuous process improvement by reviewing and analyzing production, quality control and process data, Provide systems operators with information on process performance, generating suggestions for improvement, furnishing statistical and engineering expertise, designing experiments for improvement, and actively participating on quality control teams. Minimize cost and quality impact of process problems by monitoring product quality analyses routinely to detect and remedy problems promptly. Improve process performance based on above monitoring, by reviewing process procedures and their output variables versus theoretical values; identify/prioritizing deficient areas and providing recommendations and/or engineering solutions where applicable. Optimize controllable process variables via applicable engineering techniques with respect to overall performance (quality, profit, safety, environment). Implement, review, up-date, and revise process procedure manuals. Mentor and advise the Systems Coordinators and Resource Based Work Teams daily and #8220;on-call#8221; as needed. Process troubleshooting and problem solving to be performed on a case-by-case basis. (The method of carrying out this support will vary.) Provide technical support for safety and environmental aspects of routine plant operations. Perform routine safety and environmental audits as well as continual observation of safety and environmental performance. Also, all capital and procedural modifications outlined above will include safety and environmental considerations. WORK RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the Operations Manager. Has no direct reports but provides functional support to plant manufacturing group, including vacation relief and rotating weekend call. QUALIFICATIONS B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and 3-5 years of work experience in a hydrometallurgical/chemical manufacturing or processing environment. Computer competency with Excel spread sheets, Word, and exposure to all Microsoft software applications. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong planning and organizational ability are required.
