JOB DESCRIPTIONAct-1 Group is looking for a full-time contract employee to work onsite at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), located in Vancouver, Washington. This position will provide technical support to engineers, project managers and other technicians in design of assigned transmission line, substation and communication projects to maintain conformance to all institutional regulations and BPA standards.
Position Responsibilities include:
?Perform design work for complex capital projects based on analysis of engineering and design requirements, project parameters, and technical information from multiple sources. Adapt standard designs to assigned projects. Produce new designs, as needed, when standards do not cover the project situation.
?Participate in the development, upgrade, and application of design templates, standards, and guidelines, as appropriate. Anticipate design problems that may arise and participate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of alternative solutions.
?Complete and produce comprehensive final design packages for assigned projects, including final detailed design drawings and all other documents. Make extensive use of the Computer Aided Design (CAD) system and other computer methods and applications for design and design document production.
?Review material and equipment drawings to verify compliance with applicable BPA and industry standard technical specifications.
?Update and revise design and engineering records and databases. Maintain data quality and prepare and verify data models.
?Assist design engineers with structural and foundation drawing and CAD tasks including, but not limited to, conceptual drawings, design criteria drawings, fabrication drawings, erection/construction drawings, and bills of material.
?Assist design engineers with various calculation and technical tasks including, but not limited to, material take-off calculations, bolt hole locations and edge distance calculations, other steel detailing calculations, rebar lengths, quantities and layouts, creation of material requests in BPA?s enterprise system, drawing indices, transmittals and similar design-related tasks.
?Associate?s Degree in the area of engineering, mathematics, computer science or a directly-related field is preferred. (Associate?s degree in specified or directly-related field can be substituted for 2 years? required experience - see below.)
?This is a Level 2 position: 5-9 years of experience working in the transmission utility industry, or a combination of education/experience, is required (3-7 years with an applicable Associate?s degree, as specified above). Experience should be consistent with the specific requirements of engineering, mathematics, computer science or a related field.
?Knowledge of standard drafting and engineering terminology and standard civil or structural drafting techniques is required.
?Certified training or combined knowledge/experience in one or more of the following is required: MicroStation, AutoCAD or ProjectWise?
?Concrete and steel detailing skills are highly desirable.
?Experience working with the civil or structural engineering aspects of transmission lines or substations at voltages above 69-kV is highly desirable.
?Structural detailing experience for transmission line or communication structures, particularly lattice towers is preferred.
