Job Description

University Hospitals Richmond campus of UH Regional Hospitals, is a 110-bed, full-service, community-based, acute-care teaching hospital. The hospital offers the residents of Lake and eastern Cuyahoga counties more than 30 specialties from over 400 physicians, supported by an outstanding nursing staff. Special services available at UH Richmond Medical Center are the Center for Comprehensive Orthopaedic Care, the UH Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute, the UH Neurological Institute, Spine Center and wound care.

Insures hospital case-mix index and severity profiles are accurate by performing the Documentation Improvement Program activities.

* Works collaboratively with medical, nursing, ancillary staff and case managers to improve the quality of chart documentation and to accurately reflect a patients severity of illness and risk of mortality.
* Meets established operational standards.
* Insures appropriate DRG, SOI &ROM (APR-DRG) assignment.
Performs other departmental duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Experience & Knowledge:
Minimum 3 year's ICD-9-CM coding and/or clinical experience, preferably in a large academic medical center, required.
Must have thorough, up-to-date clinical skills (i.e. current working knowledge of pathology, pharmacology, surgical procedures, etc.).
Experience working directly with physicians required. Utilization Review/Management experience strongly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required. Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good problem solving ability. Notable client service, communication, and relationship building skills required.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to use PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (i.e. printers, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.) required.
Education Requirements:Minimum Associates Degree in health related field required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
License Requirements:Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required

Preferred Qualifications:
Thorough, up to date clinical skills, current working knowledge of pathology, pharmacology,surgical procedures, etc. Esperience in working directly with physicians. Utilization Review/Management experience strongly preferred.
