Department Description

At UCSF Medical Center, our Clinical Laboratory supports the inpatient population of our tertiary care hospital, an Emergency Department and outpatient clinics including Hematology Oncology.

The Hematology Lab provides a complete menu of testing for hematologic disorders, coagulopathies, transplant surgeries, pediatrics and neonatal care. We provide a stimulating and fast paced environment for Clinical Laboratory Scientists, with in house education opportunities.

Job Summary

To perform test procedures in routine hematology, special hematology, routine coagulation, special coagulation, bone marrow/special stain section, and urinalysis. Must be able to work in a high volume, automated setting. Transcribes and reports test results, and operates laboratory equipment as needed. Follows established quality control procedures and participates in all associated tasks in the section. The test menu will vary depending on the shift.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Required Qualifications

* California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license

* BS degree

* Able to work and get along with a diverse group of staff members

* Willingness to contribute to the betterment of the lab

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* Recent experience in clinical laboratory technology, preferably in Hematology

* Experience in a high volume laboratory, doing clinical laboratory testing

* Experience with current automation used in the clinical laboratory (preferably Hematology)

* Experience using laboratory information systems and up-to-date computer skills


* California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license

Work Environment

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.
