Department: Pathology and Lab Medicine
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist III performs a range of standard and/or technically demanding procedures in one or more of the Clinical Laboratory disciplines exercising initiative and independent judgment. Communicates technical or general information to their manager, director, & medical staff. Participate in administrative activities. Provides expertise and serves as a technical resource for others. Provide functional supervision to support personnel.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in biology or related science. Five years relevant clinical experience with at least one year in the area of specialty.
License, Registration or Certification Required: Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required. ASCP Board of Registry certification as Medical Technologist, or other specialty preferred.
Skills Abilities: General and working knowledge of laboratory medicine and detailed knowledge of hematology and coagulation testing. Skilled in reading documents written in standard English as well as scientific documents such as CLSI guidelines. Skilled in writing technical reports.. Skilled in writing procedures and manuals such that others are able to perform the described tasks with additional assistance or information. Skilled at speaking using appropriate vocabulary and grammar such to ensure information is obtained and policies and procedures are understood. Skill in the use of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions. Knowledge of the metric system. Word processing skill to prepare procedures and reports. Knowledge of where to go within the organization for information and ability to judge what information should be passed on to others including management.
