JOB DESCRIPTIONFull/Part Time/PRN: Full-Time

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Associate's degree and RN, or Bachelor's degree, and a minimum of four (4) years working in a clinical research setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous coverage determination analyst, research coordinator, research nurse, or research-related budget work preferred; AND
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Medical Coder (CMC), or the ability to obtain an appropriate/approved coding certification within 12 months of employment/start date required.
Perform review of research protocols, informed consent documents, contracts, Notices of Grant Award, FDA letters, and other research documents to develop clinical trial budgets and comprehensive Coverage Analyses.
Analyze Medicare benefit policies, coverage determinations (NCD, LCDs), and medical practice guidelines related to study specific interventions.
Facilitate effective work-flow by accurately reporting the status of CAs that are in development and issues causing delays in completion.
Recommend policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations regarding research compliance billing.
Solve problems pro-actively to facilitate project start up as efficiently as possible.
Keep abreast of Medicare and other regulatory documents to best inform the CA process.
Provide information to University Billing Compliance Committee and other appropriate committees, as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Investigates and documents complaints from study participant and others.

This position is a member of the Coverage Analysis team who identifies all clinical items or services associated with a particular clinical trial, including identification of the financially accountable party, such as the trial sponsor, other funding source, patient, or a third party payor. It is important to understand medical billing and contracts to be successful in this role. Clinical Research Services is part of the bigger department Sponsored Programs Administration.
