PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Monitoring Research Program (CMRP) provides direct nursing support to the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Division of Clinical Research (DCR) H1N1 initiative for clinical trial management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) I provides comprehensive, dedicated, & high quality programmatic & clinical research/clinical trial management & regulatory support to the NIAID for a variety of high profile initiatives. Provides nursing expertise & support in performing research/therapeutic apheresis procedures, hematopoietic stem cell collections, & peripheral blood stem cell collections primarily for the DCR H1N1 initiative. Work is performed independently under the direction of the supervisor. Responsibilities include providing routine nursing care to patients &/or donors; appropriately screens & collects blood samples from patients &/or donors & performs Complete Blood Counts utilizing apheresis/phlebotomy in accordance with Clinical Center nursing policies, DTM/BSS st&ard operating procedures & FDA/AABB regulatory guidelines. The CRN I independently operates designated apheresis machines & runs quality control samples on all plasma/platelet-pheresis products collected. The CRN I also h&les all facets of plasma/platelet-pheresis component preparation; conducts complete, accurate initial & ongoing assessments of the patient/donor's c&idate's condition, identifying current health problems, & works closely with teams of Principal Investigators & Study Coordinators.
