The Commercial Development Manager/Engineer is responsible for providing hands-on commercial and technical support/development for Arkema s controlled radical polymerization (CRP) products (Nanostrength, Blocbuilder and Flexibloc). This work will be done in coordination with, and with the support of, the European technical team and Customer Service. Responsibilities include the coordination and management of the CRP business activities such as managing incoming Nanostrength/Blocbuilder/Flexibloc inventory for customer sales and sampling, including MSDS s, technical data, and lot selection as needed.

The major activities are in three areas: (1) Technical and Customer/Sales Support; (2) Management of the Business processes (e.g. orders, inventory management, and lot selection); and (3) Technical Development.

Technical/Sales/Customer Support
The major thrust here is to provide technical information and performance benefits of the CRP products to customers (or potential customers) so they can select the appropriate products. Much of the success for CRP is based on the ability to suggest the best ways for a customer to use the product in their systems or applications. Since each application, and each of the customers within the application, can be unique in their processes and desired outcome, it is an important aspect of this role to establish a trust relationship with our customers (for example by initiating and managing CDAs or JDAs) in order to provide optimal recommendations. This will require meetings at customers and thus some travelling (mainly domestically). A close relationship will also need to be established with our colleagues in France. As this is a business that is in the incubator or scale-up stage, quality control is critical. The person in this role will also make sure the appropriate characterizations and analyses (with ASR) confirm the quality of the product(s) being shipped and allow Arkema to provide the most appropriate material for the need. In addition, the person must be able to trouble shoot the customers processes and adjust them to use Arkema s product offerings.

Management of the Business Processes
Act as product leader and main contact for technical and business related concerns around CRP. Work with Customer Service to manage customer orders, material imports, provide inventory management, organize tolling operations, and assure regulatory requirements (MSDS s, proper labeling, DOT packaging, etc.) are met.

Technical Development
The major focus is to thoroughly understand the performance needs of the current and potential markets in which the CRP products (mainly Nanostrength but, also Flexibloc and Blocbuilder when applicable) are viable and match them to the characteristics of Arkema s various CRP products. Selecting the correct grade(s) for customer evaluation so they best match the customers opportunities for CRP products will be a key role. Additionally, proposals for new markets, new commercialization strategies, new grades or forms of CRP products, and their development will also be key part of this position. Maintaining awareness of new and existing competitive technologies will be a critical part of this role. Since the fundamental R&D and Global Business Management for these products resides in France, maintaining continuous collaboration with scientists and engineers and the Business Team in other Arkema locations will be an integral part of this role. Direct collaboration with the legal department for the support and growth of intellectual property and for the management of secrecy agreements or supply agreements and with the HES department for New Product and regulatory needs is also important. It is also critical to take advantage of cross-BU synergies in the market areas that are common as well as maintaining a strong involvement with internal focus groups.

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT:
This position works closely with the Director of Research Management who defines the objectives along with the Global General Manager. A key component of this role is the coordination and reporting to the Global Business Lead who is located in France. Providing appropriate input for budgeting, setting expectations and working together to align strategies with the rest of the CRP team globally are also a must.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Master s degree in Polymer Engineer & Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related technical field
- 5-10 years of professional experience in the commercial and/or R&D environments, with demonstrated skill interacting with customers;
- Previous experience in Commercial Development or Business/Marketing Management;
- Prior leadership experience is also preferred;
- Familiarity with melt processing and novel polymer processing operations is desireable;
- Hands-on knowledge of polymers and co-polymers (synthesis and applications) and R&D processes (Stage Gate, portfolio management, project planning, metrics, etc.) is required;
- Strong PC proficiency (including specific skillset with Microsoft Excel) and communication skills (both verbal and in writing) are required.
