Job Description

A Compressor Technician operates, performs preventative maintenance and repairs compressor units. Responsibilities include the following:

- Maintains a safe operating environment;
- Operates, troubleshoots and performs preventive maintenance and major repairs of natural gas engines, electric motors, auxiliary equipment and gas compressors;
- Starts up, shuts down gas compressor units and performs major equipment overhauls;
- Tests Emergency Shut Down (ESD) systems;
- Takes readings (pressures, temperatures, volumes hours run, etc.) and records them in a computerized database (FDM);
- Monitors availability of compressor units;
- Operates and maintains dehydration units;
- Performs basic operational tasks such as blowing drips, emptying tanks, refilling fluids and checking tank levels;
- Operates and performs maintenance on chillers and flare systems;
- Adjusts and repairs pressure regulation systems and pneumatic systems;
- Checks and maintains glycol levels, circulation and content;
- Operates manual and automated controls on compressor units to optimize throughput;
- Participates in on-call rotation schedule; and
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
- Provides technical support to the compressor personnel while maintenance functions are being performed on compressor equipment
- Installs and calibrates end devices such as pressure transducers, speed controllers, RTU's, loop controllers and valve positioners
- Installs and tests H2S alarms, flame detectors and gas detectors emissions monitoring equipment, serial communications devices and connections
- Maintains VFD medium, low voltage drivers, and reduced voltage starters
- Troubleshoots ethernet networks related to compressor control panels
- Installs, tests, troubleshoots and maintains emergency shut down equipment, PLC's and relief valves associated with compressor stations
- Must participate in on-call rotation schedule
- May perform duties in other job classifications as directedRequired Skills- Basic computer skills
- Basic electrical, controls, process and mechanical apptitude
- Basic gas quality processing and conditioning skills preferred
- Familiarity with National Electric Code preferred
- Working knowledge of PLC's and motor controls preferred
- Working knowledge of basic industrial communication protocols, i.e. modbus TCP, modbus RTU, and HART preferred Required Experience- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least three years of related mechanical experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a physical capabilities test (which includes, but is not limited to, lifting and carrying 70 lbs., walking 1/2 mile at various inclines, etc.) necessary to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of this job
- Associate's degree in technical discipline preferred
- Experience in natural gas preferred
- State electrical license or certification preferred
Salary grade 9. The job is part of a career ladder.
