Position Summary:

Berkeley Labs The Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering (CCSE) has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the development and analysis of time parallel numerical integration methods applied to Real Time-Time Dependent Density Functional Theory (RT-TD DFT). You will be working directly with applied mathematicians and experts in computational chemistry.

Specific Responsibilities:


Develop and and analyze time-parallel algorithms appropriate for RT-TD DFT.

Implement new temporal integration schemes in the NWChem package.

Perform testing and benchmarking of parallel scaling results.

Publish and present research results in journals and conferences.

Required Qualifications:


PhD in Applied Mathematics, Physical Sciences or Engineering or equivalent/related field.

Demonstrable research experience in one or more of the following areas: parallel algorithms, software engineering, and/or computational chemistry as evidenced by original, published work.

Prior work experience designing and implementing parallel code including OpenMP and MPI.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work productively both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Additional Desired Qualifications:


Proficiency with the following software engineering tools: make, cmake, revision control systems (CVS, SVN, git), gdb, and modern Fortran.

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.



This is a 2 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 of years paid postdoctoral experience.

Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
