Job DescriptionWhere Great People Build Successful Careers.The Hanover is seeking a Consolidation Underwriting Manager to join our growing Small Commercial Underwriting team in our Worcester, MA office.Position summary:
Responsible for the management of formal Small Commercial Consolidations. Must effectively execute deals including balancing a portfolio approach with the need for effective underwriting. Partners with both the field and the agency to ensure all parties meet stated goals and expectations. Manage and develops a team of Underwriters responsible for the day to day processing of the deals.Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Conducts regular triage of deals with Underwriters- Scrubs potential target lists and provides feedback on the quality of the opportunity- Leads consolidation kick off meeting with agency personnel- Monitor deal mix and proactively manage to ensure book aligns with agent and underwriting expectations, and overall Small CL strategy- Attends and monitor regular communications meeting with agents. Partners with each agency point person to ensure we convert competitive quotations- Provides review of underwriting results with each individual underwriter to ensure proper balance between transactional underwriting and portfolio strategies- Manages GTU and LOB mix- Handles referrals and provides technical direction and coaching to staff- Provides deal assignments, written authority grants and manages workload balance- Manages overall quality of the new business book through effective self audits and continuous feedback to underwriting staff- Provides proper training to underwriters and product knowledge through effective use of training meetings.- Establishes individual goals and objectives based on consolidations, and continuously monitors performance and progress against these- Continuously seeks to improve sales and technical skills through effective coaching, training and development of current staff, and recruitment of industry talent when needed.- Conducts annual performance and salary reviews- Manages performance issues on a timely basis, compliant with company policies- Conducts regularly scheduled meetings to keep the staff up to date on relevant issues and results.- Works closely with Operations support team to achieve overall quality and time service SLA's- Partners with Business Analysts and needed to provided needed data to run unit effectivelyKey Measures of Success (should align with goals):
- New Business Production results against branch plans- Portfolio Mix - LOB and account business- Hit and Yield ratios- Service metrics, aligned with workflows- Agency relationships - as measured by agency feedbackPosition RequirementsRequired Skills, Key Competencies and Experience:
- 3-5+ years of UW experience- Bachelors Degree or higher preferred- Strong Knowledge and understanding of Small Commercial and Branch distribution and business strategies- Experience and skill in applying leadership based on the situation to effectively manage group process issues, motivate and guide individuals to achieve objectives- Comprehensive knowledge of related underwriting, service, risk, and marketing topics- Extensive knowledge of Hanover's product offerings- Ability to build relationships with Agents- Strong written and verbal communication skillsKey Competencies:
